Voice Teacher
Stephen Lancaster joined the voice faculty at the University of Notre Dame in 2007, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate students in classical and musical theatre styles. As Head of the Graduate Voice Studio, he has helped to develop Notre Dame’s M.S.M. in vocal performance into a premiere, one-of-a-kind graduate vocal program. His students have gone on to study and perform with such organizations as the Tanglewood Music Festival, American Bach Soloists, Boston Early Music Festival, and The Rose Ensemble, and have been admitted into esteemed graduate, post-graduate, and apprentice programs across the country.
Stephen teaches classes in Lyric Diction, Voice Science and Vocal Pedagogy, Early Vocal Literature, and French Vocal Literature. He is a frequent guest clinician and has taught masterclasses at University of Nevada Las Vegas, Oklahoma City University, Linfield University, University of Portland, Connecticut College, and Santa Monica College. He also serves on the voice faculty, has directed opera scenes, and coordinates the voice programs at the Atlantic Music Festival.
Currently a voice student of David Jones, his teachers and mentors have included Judith Haddon, Caroline Helton, Martin Katz, George Shirley, Carla Rae Cook, John Riley-Schofield, Susan Clark Manns and Arnold Rawls.
